Why is English difficult to learn? #EnglishHacks

The English language is a complex system that has many rules and exceptions. Language experts have spent their entire lives studying these rules and exceptions, but even they cannot always determine which rule applies to a given word or phrase.

The problem with the English language is that there are so many exceptions and people don't always know what these rules are.

Contractions

A good example of the problem with the English language is contractions. The use of contractions in English words can be confusing because there is no set rule for when to use them, how they are spelled, or how they are pronounced. For example, the contraction "shouldn't" can be pronounced as "shouldn't" or "sh-ouldn't."

Consonant Clusters

English is a very rich language. It has 26 letters and 44 consonant sounds. Some words have up to 10 consonant clusters, which makes it difficult for children and even adult ELLs to learn how to read and spell words. 

Grapheme-Phoneme Inconsistencies

The English language is one of the most difficult languages to learn. The reason for this is that it has a lot of grapheme-phoneme inconsistencies, which makes it difficult to sound out words.

People who speak English as their second language have a hard time remembering how to pronounce words that they haven't spoken in a long time. This is because there are so many exceptions in the English language and people don't always know what these rules are.
